MAKING FRIENDS ABROAD
-THE INTROVERT'S GUIDE :)
Dreaming about Peru and Ecuador but feeling a bit anxious about making friends in a new environment? Don't worry; we've got you covered! At Delco Abroad, we understand that stepping out of your comfort zone can be intimidating, especially when it comes to meeting new people in a foreign country. That's why we've put together this handy guide to help introverts like you navigate the social scene abroad and make meaningful connections along the way.
Embrace Small Group Settings 🏡
If the thought of large social gatherings makes you break out in a cold sweat, fear not! Our programs are designed to foster a sense of community in intimate settings, allowing you to connect with your peers on a deeper level. Whether you're bonding over an on-campus traditional Peruvian cooking class, a home-cooked meal with your host family, or sharing stories with fellow students in a cozy classroom setting (5 students max per class), you'll have plenty of opportunities to form genuine connections without feeling overwhelmed.
Find Your Tribe 🌟
While making friends in a new country may seem daunting, rest assured that you're not alone. Our diverse group of participants come from all walks of life, each with their own unique backgrounds and interests. Take advantage of this diversity by seeking out like-minded individuals who share your passions and values. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a history buff, or an avid foodie, you're bound to find your tribe in our friendly and welcoming community.
Take Advantage of Shared Experiences 🌄
One of the best ways to break the ice and form lasting friendships abroad is by engaging in shared experiences. From exploring ancient Incan ruins in the Sacred Valley in Peru to navigating the colorful fruit markets in Ecuador, our programs offer a wide range of exciting activities that are sure to create lasting memories. By participating in these experiences alongside your fellow travelers, you'll naturally bond over your shared adventures and forge connections that will last a lifetime.
Embrace the Power of One-on-One Conversations 💬
While group settings can be fun, us introverts often thrive in one-on-one interactions. Take advantage of quieter moments to engage in meaningful conversations with your peers, professors, and host families. Whether you're practicing your Spanish over a cup of freshly brewed coffee in the morning or sharing your thoughts on a breathtaking sunset, these intimate moments provide the perfect opportunity to connect with others on a deeper level, learn from their culture, and form genuine friendships.
Be Kind to Yourself 🌎💖
Last but not least, remember to be kind to yourself throughout your journey abroad. Stepping out of your comfort zone can be challenging, and it's okay to feel nervous or uncertain at times. Take things one step at a time, and don't be afraid to step back and recharge when you need to. Remember that everyone's journey is unique, and there's no right or wrong way to make friends abroad. So take a deep breath, embrace the adventure, and trust that the connections you make along the way will enrich your experience at your own rhythm.
