The Birth of Delco Abroad
Delco Abroad’s story is one of family-driven entrepreneurship, remarkable transformation, resilience (and badassery) 🦙.
It all began when early two x, when Sandra Del Corral, alongside her husband and two children (5 and 2 years old then), embarked on a daring journey to establish schools in Bolivia and Peru after co-founding the Ecuador Spanish School. They sold their life possessions in a garage sale and embarked on a bus journey to countries they never expected to learn from so deeply, and eventually, call them home.
As the family poured their hearts and souls into their educational endeavors, they faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. It became clear that in order to sustain their family business, support dedicated professors, foster strong relationships with host families, and continue their commitment to nonprofit projects, a fundamental transformation was needed. The Spanish school needed to evolve to meet the changing demands of the market.

During this critical moment of reinvention, Carlos Del Corral (Sandra’s brother), with 10 years as Mead Johnson’s Latin American division Head of Finance, made a profound decision. He chose to depart from his corporate career to join forces with his sister and co-found Delco Abroad. This transition marked a pivotal shift. Delco Abroad was no longer just a Spanish school; it had evolved into an institution dedicated to experiential learning.

The Delco Abroad name comes from Sandra's and Carlos' last name (Del Corral), emphasizing the family's commitment to creating a close-knit and welcoming community. Professors and students are not treated as random clients; they are served by the family members and treated as cherished members of the Del Corral family. This personal touch underscores the core values of Delco Abroad—modern family, community, and the belief in the transformative power of education and exploration.
